Hi all, Just wondering if anyone has any ideas on places to go snowboarding over christmas. I want to keep it as cheap as possible, but need to know there will be some snow about. Or do you know of a good package deal operator. We are all intermediate level looking for a challange.

Thanks, Laine

Hey. Where are you based out of? Are you thinking Europe? North America? Elsewhere? The cheapest trip would be to go somewhere near to where you're living.....

Hi! Here in Italy we have got a lot of places to practice winter sports, and the most of them are also "low-cost": but to practice snowboard probablely the best destination is the Trentino area, in the Alps. Excellent ski resorts are Madonna di Campiglio, Canazei and San Martino di Castrozza. But beware to the climate problems of last year: infact you couldn't find natural snow. To be sure of find natural snow good solutions are Arosa and Crans-Montana in Switzerland.

Buona Fortuna!

Hmmm, I nicked this info....

"Just got back from austria yesterday and went snowboarding for so cheap. We were out at st gilgen which is a real quiet austrian village an hour bus ride from salzburg (BUS 150 TO BAD ISCHL)... It is a typical austrian village, really quiet but absolutely beautiful... met this austrian and they gave us the tip of getting the bus 150 to bad ischl and get off at STROBL.. From there you get another bus up to POST ALM.. It is 8 EURO for the bus ride and 20 euro for one day lift pass.. board hire was 15 euro ... hell cheap and great slopes surrounded by awesome moutains... there is so much snow up there at the moment, the most they have seen for 200 years... highly reccommend it.. im sure you could make your own party with a good crew.. accommodation in st gilgen was 40 euro a night for a double.. Hope this helps"

Maybe worth checking out?

Chamonix and Tignes in France are wicked for riding but not sure what costs are like these days. If you could get a cheap flight and find a hostel to stay at it might be doable. I'm not sure what kind of budget you're working with...
The farther ahead you book the more options you'll have, especially around Christmas when hills fill up fast and rates go up.

Not sure if you've considered it but often self-service ( or self-catering) apartments can be way cheaper than staying at a hotel. We stayed in a beauty in Barcelona for half of what we would've paid in a hotel and it was fabulous! It's best if you're 4 people or more. This link shows one apartment just as an example.

You can likely find a hostel too that might make it cheaper. Seems like you can get pretty decent rates for flights 'round Europe from the UK from what I know, so that's cool!
