I have been living in thailand for the last 5 years and have recently completed my instructors examination to become a PADI scuba instructor. if anyone is remotely interested in diving in thailand drop a line and i would be more then happy to answer any questions and throw some advice your way

What is an average price for a week long liveaboard there? I was looking at doing one. Also, if you were to pick the best two islands in Thailand to dive from, where would you go? I'm looking at going to all of the big ones, Ko Tao, Ko Samui, Koh Phi Phi, Phuket, etc.

most of the liveaboards here are for 4 days and run anywhere from 18,000 baht to 24,000 baht and this includes 14 dives, all your food and an aircon room on the boat. I have only seen one company offer week long liveaboards and truthfully i dont know how much they ask. as far as best places to dive.......the general consensus is that the similan islands are the best diving in thailand. ko tao is great place to learn but kinda sucks for experienced divers......samui does all their diving on ko tao....phi phi is nice but a bit over crowded and phuket does a lot of their dives in the similans. check out the shop i work for at khaolakscubaadventures.com and see what they have to offer. if you have any more questions feel free to send them...........and as far as the other post, its kind of a get here and put your CV into all the shops and start free lance so get on over here

april is a great time for both sides of thailand as far as conditions are concerned. in the similans this is right in the middle of the manta season so its a great time. In the summer, the similan islands are closed due to weather restrictions but conditions are good over on ko tao but the diving is not as good

If you are already certified, go to the Similan Islands. Ko Tao / Samui, as it has been said, use the same sites and these sites are for learners. As a result the coral has taken some beatings and there isn't an impressive amount of life down there. I haven't dived Phuket but have heard it is crowded due to the popularity of Phuket itself, and Phi Phi.

Liveaboards on the Similans are fantastic but yes I have never saw a week long either. Generally they are three or four days. The longer ones take you to better, more remote (but still popular) sites so I would definitely recommend doing the longest you can find.
