Newbie Group: Members Posts: 2 Joined: 7-April 07 Member No.: 47130 Nominate me as a Local Expert	hi carmen, i'm going to Kham (the eastern part of Tibet) in July and august. this is not exactly tibet as TAR, this area belongs to sichuan but i can tell you there's more genuine tibetans than in Lhassa. let me know if you plan only TAR or if you're flexible? i've been there before and know the area pretty well. waiting for your reply laurentpierson@hotmail.com

I've previously been to China and while I absolutely loved it and definitely want to go back, possibly even this fall, I don't want to do it by myself again. Same goes for Tibet, company would be great. At the moment, I'm in Aussie and I will be here for another couple of months before going to SE Asia (briefly, just to obtain necessary forms, permits, visas) and Tibet. You might want to factor in that they are very difficult to get at the moment aside from official tour groups. There are a couple of shady deals in beijing, but you should probably factor in some time to deal with this issue. Plus, july might be even tighter, as more protests are planned. I was planning to go to chengdu to try to see a friend and arrange travel to tibet from there. guidebooks say you can get your permits and "tour" from hotels in chengdu. best, sarah

Currently there are issues getting permits - might get better by july, might get worse. It fluctuates daily. I'm at Leo's in Quianmen. Check out this thread.
