When I'm traveling, I usually put everything on my credit card and/or take out local currency from bank machines once I get there.

Ask your bank how much it is, then you'll know what to expect. If it's too high, consider getting a different credit card.

have you had a look at caxton pre paid cards - you load money on to the cards online and then can take out cash from any atm as you go, like your normal bank card. You don't get charged for withdrawls of paying by card you just get a couple of punds charge everytime you load money on to the card. It has the same security as a normal credit card too and finds the best exchange rates possible for each time you withdraw cash.

Happy travels!

I stayed in NZ for four months and the best thing I did was take my American money to the bank and get a debit card through ANZ (you can look them up). I exchanged my money and put in an acct. and then used it as a debit/atm card while I was there. When I left I withdrew my money. There are ATM's everywhere and branches of the bank, so it was a way to not have to worry about losing money. It was quick and painless. Plus everyone uses cards there. Just an idea!
