Hi,

Am planning a 3-week vacation to Costa Rica September 2005. Everything is pretty much settled on the routes and itineries. But the one defining factor which
we keep on reading about is the weather.

In short we were wondering if anyone has experienced Costa Rica in September and can advise of the weather they had?

Have visited numerous weather sites and they advise it could have 15/20 days on avg where it would\could rain. Is this a tropical 2hr downpour or could you have extensive 2/3 days non-stop?

Any advice would be appreciated, to help decide if this should be moved to another time in the year so not to waste what could be a fantastic holiday destination. Thanks.

Costa Rica in September is pretty much hit or miss --- rainy season it is.
The best time to visit are the months of December thru March, "our" winter season.
Good luck!

It's hard to say, i traveled extensively thru central america a couple of years ago. Much of the time i spent in Costa Rica. When it rains it can rain for days on end, other times you will get a few hours gap in the middle of the downpour to enjoy the outside. The good thing is, if its the rainy season on the caribbean side just move your trip over to the pacific side and you can usually avoid the rains. There are great places to go throughout! Pura Vida

I was in Costa Rica for almost three weeks from the end of Sept into Oct two years ago. Our flight was diverted to El Salvator where we sat for almost two hours on the tarmack because of rain and mudslides in Guatemala (our first stop). They finally let us take off to fly directly to San Jose. I don't know what the travelers to Guatemala ended up doing.

We traveled from San Jose, up to Arenal, drove to Monteverde, down to Jaco and Manuel Antonio, then back to San Jose to fly home. We had pretty good weather with little or no rain for most of the trip but the people we met who were traveling the other direction (clockwise) had another story to tell. One couple told us it rained non-stop while they were in Monteverde. We had rain one evening but it was fairly clear the next day to go around in the could forest.

At Manuel Antonio it was beautiful with no rain until the day we left. Then it poured! We were staying just off the beach and, when the weekend was over, we felt like we were the only travelers there.
