TravelPod Local Expert Guy-Paul Dubois has been living on the island of Tortola for 5 years. He left the island for good 6 months ago to travel around the world. He missed it so much he decided to come back when his trip was over.

sorcerer.png Guy-Paul says:

"It’s a beautiful island, with great beaches. There are not a lot of tourists, so you can basically end up on an empty beach. I’ve been visiting many islands in the Caribbean, but Tortola is still one of the greatest.

I know everything there is to do on the island. It is very easy to rent a boat, and visit the islands around. (Around 50 small islands)

Virgin Gorda is another island 30 minutes away from Tortola by ferry, where you can see huge volcanic rocks, and walk between them.

A must to see is the Willy T, a boat-bar located near Norman Island, where they serve the famous Pain Killer, a cocktail with rum, pineapple juice, orange juice and coconut cream.

Also on Full Moon, there is a huge party at Bomba Shack, where people come from the USVI to party. They have a drink there based on magic mushrooms, which are legal on the island.

In winter time there is also some surf, from beginner beaches to expert.

I work with people from all around the world in my office, from the US, to Africa, Romania, Switzerland, England and Turkey! There is a small sports club where we play squash and tennis, trying to keep us busy (There are no cinemas on the island, the old one burned, and they’ve been building the current one for the past 3 years! No problem mon.)"
