One of the traits I see to be quite common in many travelers is how romantic they are. air_kiss.gif You could feel it when they would be telling a story of an inspiring sunrise at the edge of the ocean or their long lost soulmate back on that island four stops ago.

Share your romantic stories here. Don't be shy...wub.gif

How about a poem?

"What would it be like
to fall in love?" she asked,
as we sat facing east
in the hour before dawn.
My gaze lingered long
sipping, savoring
the subtleties of twilight.

To fall in love--
I've often ruminated on this
question of questions
as I stared into the eyes of another,
our hearts beating time
like the language of some distant tribe.

"What would it be like?"
she asked again,
and I turned to her
the sun rising in her eyes
the night dispelled into so many lost stars,
so many drops of dew.

This is what it would be like to fall in love.

Yep... in my early 20's and some time after I was a bit more than a half-baked poet. That particular piece got translated into french and read at a wedding in Paris!
Alas, the romantic has been in hiding for some time now, I guess I've been raked over the coals one time too many. Of course, one tends to think that, and then the spark comes and lights it all aflame again!

Fell in love once with a girl from Illinois whom I met in the woods of Oregon at a rainbow gathering. From the first time we made eye contact, we both knew. . .
She flew out for two weeks to boston (she was living in SanFran at the time) and we spent a number of days on the cape, camping on the beach. .
A month later she loaded up her car and moved out here. We stayed together for almost 3 years, and, though we have been broken up for 10 years now, she is still in town, and we are still friendly, though not all that close.
Saw her the other night--still had a little spark, but we both know we can never go back. . .

I met a wonderful Aussie guy who captured my attention for 10 full days. We would just spend hours staring at each other. When we walked on the beach holding hands, I felt this weird feeling like we were old people together.

After we had parted, some random aspiring photographer was showing some pictures they had taken the day before and I couldn't believe it! There was one black and white photo of the gardens and me and the guy sitting together at a picnic table head in hands, gazing into each others eyes. I said "thats me!" and he said "really?" and gave it to me.

Sooooo romantic. I still have that photo.

When my wife and I were first dating it was long distance. She was is Cali, Colombia and I in south Florida. On her 2nd trip to visit me I surprised her by driving down to Key West for the weekend. Upon arriving we made a mad dash (I know that part is not romantic) and caught the boat I had reservations for. We went out for the sunset cruise and watched the famous Key West sunset from the boat.

Was that the Wolf? Or one of the catamarans? The wolf is an awesome ship. Very romantic!

I don't remember the name. All I remember was that I paid way too much in a city where there are hundreds of boats and the sun set is beautiful anywhere. But while sometimes being romantic doesn't cost a thing, sometimes it can be expensive.

I once went on another one of those with friends and it was nicknamed the Booze Cruise. All you can drink as they took you out for a sunset cruise.

I lost my digital camera on a Booze Cruise once. It was kinda romantic when three guys jumped in after it. It wasn't recovered. sad.gif

My most romantic experience is when my fiancee, Roberto, took me to Montreal for the weekend. All I knew was that we were going to Montreal, nothing more.
We ended up at a beautiful historical hotel in the heart of old montreal, there were roses and champagne in the room waiting for us, and the rest of the trip was an absolute dream. I really felt so love...and pretty much like a princess.
I wrote a whole article about in my blog if you want to see pictures and read more about what we did: www.travelcloseup.com
It was one of the first articles I wrote for my blog!

I guess a gondola ride in Venice would be romantic, but I always thought Florence was a romantic city too.

Can you imagine snuggling close to your sweetie at 6am about 1500 feet above the Nile River in Luxor, Egypt overlooking the Valley of the Kings, inside a hot air balloon on a cool winter morning? Well, that's one of our romantic travel memories. The entire trip to Egypt and Jordan was a romantic dream come true, but the balloon ride at dawn really topped it all, as we watched the sun rise in the distance and cuddled close to steal a few smooches. If only I wasn't so concerned about my hair being cinged by the massive flames shooting up into the balloon; or worse, my sweetie being more than a bit paranoid that the basket we were in was suddenly dangling a bit too closely to the power lines below. Okay, nevermind all of that drama--the trip was absolutely breathtaking and if you ever get the chance to balloon over the Nile, you won't regret it.

I love When a Man Loves a Woman.

I love romance, but I'm afraid, now that I've really been trying to think of even one romantic thing that we've done, I can't really think of any!

One thing I do really love, that's not really romantic nor is it a story, (but I'm determined to write something) is sometimes when we're asleep, I naturally do the reverse spoon. My back fits perfectly into the arch of his. It's a pretty comfy place.....

My partner and I haven't travelled together yet....(although I got a great idea for our honeymoon while I was away last week!) but I feel like we've had our share of romance.

We met just as I was leaving for my RTW....the plan was to leave and never come back, so in my mind we were just having a good time. So I left, and it was hard. Really hard. So after five weeks, I sent him an email on a Friday saying to come and get me at the airport on Sunday. Best decision I ever made, and I think it was rather romantic. smile.gif

A most romantic night for me was sitting on the Malecon wall in Havana the Straits of Florida across the channel heat lighting flashing in the distance the breeze perfect my sweet handsome Cuban sitting behind me against my back his arms around my waist whispering all kind of beautiful things in to my ear kissing me gently all over my neck Goosebumps running down my spine. A night I did not want to end or will ever forget.

Or the time on the beach after diving he be reading me poems by Pablo Neruda in Spanish with the most passionate voice then translating them to me.

Romantic is when you know you know them from somewhere else...some other time...some other reality...and they are your bestest friend.
