Hello there, welcome to the forums.

Maybe start with perusing some of the blogs. When I was in Thailand I went to I-San, it was pretty cool to be in the jungle out there, and there are barely any other tourists, so it's interesting.

The best camera is anything that works I guess? I just had a regular PowerShot and it did the job.

Strat from Bangkok, go to northeash then connect by local bus to north cause of raining season so you will see the green then take flight from Chiangmai to the south such as Phuket , Samui, Kho Tao, Krabi I think it would be great for the end of raining and start to
traveling around the sea.

Well, If you still have the time ,, from BKK to Ayuthaya or Kanjanaburee it's the short way
take only 2-3 hrs. to there.
