It's not a meteorolgical question, but I was wondering why none of the guide books or information on the internet make reference to how cold this place really is.

I traveled during the summer months and was just seriously shocked and put off by the cold. If I were traveling during winter, I wouldn't bother with the statement, but seriously, why isnt the coldness mentioned.

I know I am not the first one too mention it because I have read the same statements in other travelblogs. I sure would have appreciated knowing ahead of time;-) I'll take a sunny day on the North island anyday over the cold.

Dave,

You've been unlucky my friend. I arrived back in Queenstown Wednesday and was shocked by the cold. It was actually warmer in the wintered USA where I've just come from. Very surprised, as last year Queenstown was a scorcher.

Don't be put off too much, it may be a glorious one tomorrow and there is far too much to do around here anyway. If you need any help with things please let me know, though I leave the day after tomorrow to start the mad random road trip. Where you headed next?

Scott..

Just my luck..I don't think it got over 55 degrees farenheit the entire time I was there. I had such high hopes for QT. I stayed in the tv room at the campground alot just to keep warm ;-).

Where too next..I'm not sure..but I enjoyed looking at different part of the world and first impressions. Where are you off too?

Mate,

You should have hit Monty's or some of the other happy hour bars (huge roaring fires that have you sweating the whole time - not wanting to rub it in..)

I've just arrived in Nelson. There's a heatwave here so might hang around a few days and soak it up. Also thinking to help out at the Couchsurfing collective. Campervanning all the way, everyday's a Sunday.. beach.gif

What's your plan?

Hmm, I'm up in Nelson at the moment so it will be tricky. I'm sure there are plenty of pics in the archives somewhere, though they'll prolly be a bit blurry and swaggered.. drinks.gif
