i was hoping this one IPB Image
made it in Jan, but counting backwards it looks like it must have been late Dec.
i also liked the lighting in this one (i can never get the moon to show up good in pictures)
IPB Image

i guess we're not voting for my favorites though, eh. so since i have a thing for sunsets, i guess i'll vote for #2.

I reckon Tom's are both better than any of the nominees (which are also quite good).

Love the Arty shot as well. The definition of the breaks in the clouds is lovely!

that first one labelled "Bay of Islands" actually looks like Admiral Arch along the Great Ocean Road in Australia. ....doing further research on the photo and seeing that it was posted from Melbourne, it probably is. so if any Aussies out there may want to vote for their own scenic landscapes, #1 is an option.

i don't see a permanent link for this on the main page. you should add that so people know this even exists and so they don't have to dig around in the forums to find it.

Hi there!
I was not aware of this photo competition or that our picture was selected for it... thanks!
(although I´m not sure the one selected is one of our best pics but never mind smile.gif

The location of that picture is in the Bay of Islands Coastal Park (Great Ocean Road). I can´t remember the exact name of that arch (wikipedia says it´s Elephant arch)
I think Admiral Arch in in Kangaroo Island, but not sure as we never went there.. any Aussies here please confirm flowers.png

Anyway,thanks!

ya, you're right. i'm not sure why that name stuck in my head. when i saw 'bay of islands', i was thinking the area north of auckland, nz.

Carmella, i see there's a link under "Lucky's News" for this but it's cut-off ("Best Trave...") and not very noticeable. Would you be able to have the photo contest picture IPB Image maybe there with the link? (might change the pic to say 'Photo of the Month' as well)

who selected the nominees? I've seen far FAR better pictures in the TravelPods - just take a look in the Featured Travel Photo section, there are some absolutely stunning ones there to start with. Not saying the nominees aren't any good, but they're not the best of the bunch...

The nominated photos were selected from all the featured photos of January. So there were only 31 to choose from, and the judges (people never agree with the judges) narrowed them down to the ones available.

All I can say is if there are better ones out there then the person responsible is going to have to request that they be a featured photo.

I personally think the judges did a super job. Wow, they're such great individuals.

And the new quick link is great. Nice one. Now the competition is really on.

Hi There Anne

I agree that there are better and worse photos out there. But we are only choosing from the 31 photos that were Featured Photos in January. If you read the rules and guidelines of the contest in the thread that is pinned in this forum, you will see how things work.

I would love to see some great works submitted in the next bit! Now is the time to submit your best photos from then and now!! All photos are eligible as long as they have not been a Featured Photo in the past.

Hope that helps smile.gif

All of the pictures are incredible! Wow! Nice work.

Tom, you need to submit the sunrise and sunset pictures you had from Africa. Those were terrific!

BTW, how do photos get selected to be featured? Is it just a matter of submitting a picture and then hoping it is chosen to be featured?

Our first month of voting for the Best Photos of the Year Contest has come to a close. There was strong competition but we appear to have found ourselves a winner. January’s Photo of the Month is Gorgeous Sunset. Congratulations to Hiatt84 who will be receiving a complimentary calendar as soon as they are printed.

I assume you let Hiatt84 know? I'd like to hear some kind of acceptance speech.
