Hi,

After doing a bit of a traveling stint in South America, instead of coming home, I'd love to shoot over to U.A.E. - Dubai and see if i can find some work from 6 to 12 months to save some quick $$! :-)

I'm an Australian and with my partner plan to arrive in Dubai sometime around the middle of 2008. I have an I.T. background and will have done extensive traveling previous to going, so was thinking maybe an I.T. job or even a travel agency job could be good? - i don't really mind...

Has anyone just rocked up in Dubai and attempted to find work? Or does anyone have any information that could help me do so... E.g. any job agencies to register with? Any useful websites i could look on? etc?

Yo Clint. Make your day and come to Dubai! Seriously though, the majority of expats coming to the UAE have already lined up work before getting on the plane, and their employer sponsors them on a package that usually includes accomodation, annual flights home & residency visa. That said however, with Dubai being such a dynamic place, u could always "rock up" on a 30day visit visa, and use that month to try and get work. The daily papers, Gulf News & Khaleej Times, both have extensive employment supplements and you could try www.NaukriGulf.com, theemiratesnetwork.com (IT specialists) or try the Jobs Wanted forum on www.expatriates.com (UAE page). IT isn't my field but I've heard that the Indians have that market cornered and the pay might not be so good. If u do manage to get work, bear in mind where you'll be living 'cos the traffic in Dubai is a b!$@%, with 2 hour commutes each way being common. The Metro won't be ready till 2009. Good luck.

Did you ever make it to Dubai? If so, what are you doing? How are you liking it?

I have been here just on a year and loving it....
a huge expat community, ramadam is (nearly) over and the social season is about to begin.
