Hi folks

I arrive in Ko Samui airport around 5pm on 24th December... I had hoped to get a boat from there to Ko Tao to meet a friend on the same day but it looks like it might not be possible that late in the day!

Does anyone know if I will be able to get a boat to Ko Tao in the morning of Christmas day?

Cheers

Oooh, that is tough! The timetables are quite strict. I can't give you a definite answer, but there are a lot of Thai experts on here, so I hope someone can help answer your question as I'd hate to get it wrong sad.gif

I was on Koh Samui, and my friend got the last boat of the day (around 5pm), just to Koh Pha Ngan which is a shorter distance, so the cut-off times are probably right, given your arrival time.

One other thing you could maybe look at doing, is checking out the boats from Samui to mainland Surat Thani....then you could take the night cargo ferry (leaves at 11pm from Surat Thani) straight to Koh Tao?

It's not the best recommendation as I did the night cargo boat from there to Samui, and it wasn't pleasant!!!! (immense heat & cockroaches!) But the boats used for Koh Pha Ngan and Koh Tao were bigger, so might be better - and there were outdoor parts of those boats for better air etc

No worries - glad you're not doing the night cargo boat!

I don't know about Christmas day boats, but I wouldn't think it would be any different, as it's not 'officially' a holiday - hopefully someone can confirm for sure

I don't see christmas day being any different then another day to Thais, so the ferry schedule should be the same.
You should have your friend meet you in Samui and party there for Christmas eve as it's lots bigger then Tao and the party will be much better. I've been on both islands and Tao only has one road bars on it compared to Samui's fairly large party area.
