Hi,

Just found Travelpod while searching for info on Namibia and Botswana so thought I'd join and say Hi and see if anyone has any tips for me. I am going mid November and have about 5 weeks to travel. I am having difficulty trying to decide between going on a couple of tours or traveling about on my own. I can't afford to hire a car and it seems that public transport is not that great - anyone got any opinions/experience/suggestions to share?

Cheers

Jo

Hey Jo, I don't know if this will help you, but check out some of the other blogs and see what they did.

I have heard that public transit in Africa is very slow and sort of haphazard, but isn't it all about the experience anyway? Maybe approaching the trip with another perspective is in order! You'll save money and have a richer experience.

Check the blogs from Namibia: http://www.travelpod.com/travel-blog-count...mibia/tpod.html

and Botswana: http://www.travelpod.com/travel-blog-count...swana/tpod.html

and see what other people did.

Sorry I've never wanted to go there.
But welcome to TP and I hope you find your answers.
Try looking in the Africa forums and if you can't find the answer then ask (in the Africa forums).

Namibia is great and so not what anyone from the Western World expects (well not anyone on my trip anyway!).
Highlights for me were the dunes in Sessriem and make sure if you do that to visit Sossusvlei and Dead Vlei too; Swakopmund - if you have any sense of adventure you can do a heap load here and; Etosha National Park - great campsites and try to get as many game drives as possible, the night drive was worth it for a close up of a rhino and hyena alone! Botswana all I can really say is to spend a night on an uninhabited island in the Delta - so much fun and you'll have to get there by mokoro which is soooo nice!

My blog has some more details if you're interested too.
