My fiancee and I are planning a Honeymoon to Morocco and Spain in
February. We are always hungry for new and exciting food experiences
as we are both foodies at heart, love to comb through flea markets in
search of the odd and unusual treasure and appreciate the city and
country (we spend a good time traveling from our little Brooklyn
apartment to upstate New York). She and I are also in clothing,
myself being a sartorialist. We thought that both places can offer us
exactly what we want due to their close proximity to each other but
are having some trouble planning what places to see. For Morocco we
were thinking Fez. Our experiences in boutique hotels
have always been great so we were hoping to find a place to stay in
both countries in this type of setting but keeping in mind we are on a
budget-as frivolous as we'd like to be, we understand now is the time
to save our money. In Spain we'd like to have a "Spain: On the Road"
experience without traveling too far. We'd like to stay in the a city
(Seville) with great food and also be close to the countryside for that off the
road experience, food playing a part in both places. For this email,
I'm trying to show my future wife I can plan something exciting,
romantic and fun while keeping it creative. We have allotted
ourselves in two weeks for this trip. Any advice to make this a
successful trip would be extremely appreciated.

Best, Erik

So, what specifically are you looking for, hotel recommendations?
You can find a bunch of hotel recommendations here:
For Fes: http://www.travelpod.com/hotels/Fes.html
For Seville: http://www.travelpod.com/hotels/Seville.html

I heard the souks in Morocco are pretty intense and amazing shopping and eating experiences, definitely head to one of those, I'm sure you'll find one in Fes.

Are you renting a car in Spain?

Well I haven't been to Fes, but if its anything like Marrakech then you will definitely be in food heaven! You can pretty much buy anything in the souks - but make sure you browse and barter well, I imagine it will be low season around then so you should be able to find some good prices.

If you are planning to drive in Morocco then be prepared for it to be a little crazier than Spain - generally it should be okay, just make sure you know where your horn is cause that rules the road over there!

The Medina in Fes is huge, and you could be entertained for a very long time just wandering around and getting lost (recommended). There of course you could see a lot of great clothing stores. Guides are cheap, but doing one once will help orient you in there. Be careful because they might bring you to some over priced stores where they get a cut of the money.

Fes is a nice city, but there really isn't a lot to actually do there. The night life is pretty low key in Fes, and most bars will have only a few females... prostitutes. Check out the American Center, they have cooking classes and some other cool cultural events. Taxis are excessively cheap, so taking them shouldn't be a problem.

The Clock Cafe (right by Bab Bou Jaloud... a gate any taxi will be able to lead you to) is highly recommended. You can get camel burgers there!

I would recommend a day trip to Ifrane, its a breath of fresh air from Morocco (Swiss architecture) and you would probably be able to ski there in Feb.

I've been living in Fez for the last two years, and I can tell you almost everyone that comes here falls in love and ends up buying property..
Fez makes a good cultural trip, and its also the gastronomical capital of the country, with dishes like couscous, tagine, pastilla and all kinds of roasted lamb, its delicious. It is also the biggest medina in the world and amongst the oldest, a jewel that even if its not well preserved whispers something about a great past, the real magic of Fez happens indoors, make sure you book a good riad, depending on the budget Riad Fes is the best, but Dar Seffarine is much cheaper and has a lot of charm, otherwise you can rent a private house. In any case make sure you pamper yourself in a hammam -moroccan bath-, I can give you plenty of advice just email me!
good luck
