Hi all.

I am planning a trip to Taiwan to visit a friend and will be travelling via Hong Kong. Due to schedules I will be travelling over Chinese New Year. The current plan is to land in Hong Kong early/midday on the 12/02/2010 and leave to Taipei on the 16/02/2010. I am just worried that a number of the sights will be closed. My options are as follows:
  • Leave itinerary and see what I can - from what I understand this is an incredible experience in Hong Kong.
  • Arrive slighty earlier to catch more of the sights
  • Miss Chinese New Year in Hong Kong and stop over at the end of the trip

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks a million

Kamy

I got a guide book on China and it says its best to avoid traveling in China in Chinese newyear and prices are higher during this period for travel if not fully booked. Not been to China myself so this the most i can tell you :-) hope it helps!

Chinese New Year can be a wonderful albeit annoying time of the year. Everything will be packed. Hotels will be filled and you'll have to wait to eat, but it is also a lot of fun. No sites will be closed, but they will be packed. I think Hong Kong is one of the best places in China to celebrate Spring Festival. You will have a blast if you don't let the crowds bother you.

This is a forum for people to help each other out. If you had read any forums you would see this. Posting the Google link doesn't help anyone and is insulting. You've posted the link all over the forums. If you don't want to be of any help, I suggest you go somewhere else.

Just wanted to thank you for your advice. I do believe that I will spend Chinese New Year in HK.
