Hi,

New to this board. I just really would like to know some advice. Due to the nature of this thread i will post on the India and Thailand board.

I am someone who has never travelled outside of Europe or USA but I am going to Chennai in India for 3 weeks with my work.

All expenses paid, i will be staying in a hotel and working in Chennai.

My first question is really generally for advice on things to do and see in Chennai. Anybody with past experiences who can recommend some sights please share your thoughts.

I really dont know too much about this, although i find myself keen to ride an elephant or something but guess i would need to head outside Chennai for this. Also would like to see a lot of the wildlife. I have heard they have wild monkeys. Never seen one before unless in captivity so is there a place where they particularly 'hang out'?

I also have a great appreciation for beautiful buildings, so any temples or anything like that you can recommend would be great.

This brings me on to my second question. As i will be there for 2 full weekends, I am looking into the possibility of spending one of those weekends somewhere like Thailand. To fly out on a Friday or Saturday and to return on the Monday.

I need to know a good website where i can look at flight prices from Chennai.

As i have never been to Thailand and am only there for 2 or 3 nights, i will need advice on a good place to go. Due to time and the fact i am flying in, im guessing Bangkok is the obvious place.

I would therefore need a place to stay, so if anyone has any general advice on all the aspects of going to Thailand (Bangkok) that would be great.

I hope some of you can help. Im getting tired of reading websites with biased views.

Thanks everyone.

Posting my answer again here:

Wow... lots of questions...

First Chennai... if you haven't already, read some blogs on Chennai: http://www.travelpod.com/travel-blog-city/...as%29/tpod.html

I always check http://www.tripadvisor.com/flights for flight advice... so try out that site and see where you can get the cheapest flight to Bangkok. It shouldn't be that hard.

As for stuff to do in Bangkok, you can read my blog about it if you want, I went there last fall: http://www.travelpod.com/travel-blog/starlagurl/23/tpod.html

Of course there have been lots of other people who have been since, check out their blogs too...

Something to consider: What sort of visa will you be on in India? If you leave India and come back - can you do that?

If not, maybe fly to some other place within India. India is huge and fascinating and diverse - so worth seeing different parts of it if you can
