Has anyone done this? We are thinking about it as part of our honeymoon!

Thanks!

How long will you stay and will you backpack around?

I've heard about taking the ferry from Spain to Morocco (which cities I couldn't say).

It's up in the air for our honeymoon destination. Not sure I want to backpack for this particular trip though! smile.gif

Hey Andrea,

All the details you might need are in this entry I did:
http://www.travelpod.com/travel-blog-entri...06380/tpod.html

Sevilla to Algeciras in Spain, the the ferry to Tangier, then straight on the train to Marrakech. Might want to also check out some more of my entries. Morocco was a sensation.

If you get the chance, go to Ait Ben Haddou and Erg Cherbi dunes near Merzouga. If you do get to Erg Cherbi then check out the Kasbah I stayed in there with some friends. I've never wanted to advertise anywhere I've stayed before, but this place was amazing. If you are on your honeymoon, perfect.

Here's the Erg Chrbi blog:

Plenty of pics in there too so you know what you are in for.
cheers

I was with a tour group for my trip to Spain, Portugal and Morocco.

After spending around ten days in Spain we got the ferry to Morocco. The trip itself wasn't very long, but our tour guide and Moroccan guide were both nervous about it for some reason, which did nothing to reassure us.

Our passports were taken by a Moroccan border authority to be checked and passed or not. There was some fear that some of us might not get our passports back but it turned out everything was fine.

The first sight of Gibraltar was incredible. I would have loved to land there and look around but that wasn't an option.

The first sight of Africa amazed me. The very scenes I'd hoped to see were right there--low trees bent to the wind, cork forests, women in full Muslim dress working the fields, often with a baby on their backs, with hand tools, camels for the men to ride while their women walked behind them, the men mostly gathered at a small cafe nearby to drink coffee and gossip, it was exactly like I had pictured it.

The ferry trip itself was quite short, but one surely knew that they'd arrived in a place far, far different than Spain.

I've just got back from a few days meandering around these parts, and thought this might be of use:

You can take a ferry from Tarifa, the southernmost town in Europe and a fantastic little surfing community. It's very close to Algeciras where you can also catch a ferry to Morocco.

From Tarifa, you can nip across the ditch to Tanger from as little as 29 euros. The crossing takes 35 minutos. Click here for more info..

Hope it helps.. thumbsup.png
