Guinness is celebrating its 250th anniversary on September 24th 2009!!

Events are kicking off at the Dublin epicentre, but celebrations are invited worldwide, as we all raise a toast to the man himself: Arthur Guinness

The largest music events in Dublin are being divided into 4 main venues, and the tickets are yet to go on sale, but confirmed acts include the likes of: Kasabian; Estelle; Black Eyed Peas & Tom Jones!!

Doors will open at each venue at 17:00 GMT, with a toast being raised to Arthur Guinness at 17:59 GMT

So if I am reading the summary correctly, Arthur's Day on the 24th is sort of arbitrarily chosen? It seems to me then that the exact day isn't really that significant on its own right. Is that correct?

Well, I guess that's the 'official day' - the day the famous Guinness Storehouse became the place Guinness was brewed for the first time.

Before that maybe he was making it in his loft and it was only popular with his close friends and family?

(The last bit is made up - in case anyone thinks I'm being serious)

Thanks for alerting me to this event. I will definitely buy a can--draft is only available here during high season--of Guiness for the toast.

I miss good Guiness almost as much as I miss Ireland. (I lived in West Cork between 1996 and 2002.)

Well there's obviously a bit of Sharon Shannon going on as well with her accordion in one of the pubs too

Well I made sure the event was duly celebrated on the Greek island of Paros.

As it happened we were having dinner with friends in a traditional taverna on the pier in the well known town of Naoussa. I don't know what the proprietor thought when I pulled out a couple cans of the black and poured everyone a portion. Certainly all heads turned when the six of shouted "To Arthur" at 19:59 (17:59 GMT).

That's brilliant! That's what I like to hear! Predictably, celebrations were mental here. Pubs were packed, but we managed to get in one, which was a good spot for live music

I have photos etc, so once I've added them, I'll let you know - my camera had been broken and I just got it replaced that day, so no idea how good the photos are - I tried to take a couple of video clips with it too - we'll see, I'll let you know anyway
