Hi,

I'm going to Yucatan and Belize later this month and also wanted to go to Tikal and Livingston in Guatemala.

The FCO.gov.uk website makes Guat seem really dangerous, should I avoid it?

Mucho gracias!

I wondered if the foreign office was being over cautious, I guess they have to report everything.

I can't get onto your site though...

I agree! Definitely GO to Guatemala!! ..Its awesome.. the police proposed to me several times - but other than that and Guat City(for sure - dont drive in).... its awesome! However, Honduras remains my favorite Central American country!! Definitely think of taking buses or hitching rides through(probably more reliable!) the narly back roads!! best luck!

I have noticed that many of these kinds of sites make many of the very safe places I have travelled to "seem" dangerous. I would say that you will get a better picture of what is really going on by talking to travellers that have actually been in the area recently. You can do a search and perhaps consult some fellow travelpodders who have been there to see if they have the same impressions.

Have fun!
