I am travelling to India in 11 days and will be heading to the coast of Tamil Nadu in March to look for service work. I want to help with children. Any leads, ideas?

Not 100% sure who exactly does work there but a few places I would check would be:

WorldVision
Habitat for Humanity

Google the above for more info.

Good luck!

I'm going to Tamil Nadu myself (after Thailand, Sri Lanka) in mid-January as part of live-blogging project to revisit and report on the tsunami-hit regions one-year later. Another source for information on volunteer groups is Auroville, http://www.auroville.org/ - I know they did post-tsunami volunteer work themselves and are familiar with the communities there.

Good luck!

Evelyn,

I've got a very dear friend in Sri Lanka who helped with our TravelPod fund raiser after their first floods. She is a local school teacher and would be more than happy to show you around if you plan to be in Galle.

The TravelPod Relief Fund

Let me know and I'll send you her information.

Cheers!
