I think it's better to take good shoes with you rather then buying them along the way. As my mum alwasy says; two of the most important things are good shoes and a good bed! As Uncle D says, buying them on the road ain't where it's at. Harder to find what you might need, depending where you are. It does depend on where you're going and what you're doing, but a safe bet, if you are not going get beached, is to take a good pair of trekking shoes. You usually can always find flip flops or other sandals such as these along the way. I take good pair of waterproof sport sandals. Actually, the sandals I have, the back strap comes off and gets put on in the front and the sandal converts into a comfy slip-on shoe. Then goes on the back if you need more support. MAX pairs shoes = two. One if you can get away with it. I often find it really amusing when I see women travelling around with those boots, you know? Knee high black b&tch boots? That's what I call them anyway! Funny.
