We are a retired couple who spent a month in Panama last winter. We enjoyed all of it, which we did on our own with planning by internet. We were in Panama City (La Estancia B&B, on Cerro Anton, walk or take a taxi to sights, great people) for a week doing the canal, the old city and the causeway. We flew to Boquete (Isla Verde roundhouse, very pretty grounds, a bit out of town). Several good restaurants, coffee tour with Hans, hiking, nice weather . A week would probably be too much for most people.
We were a few days at Gamboa Rainforest Resort, hot, humid and a bit dull because we had done most of the "rainforest" stuff before. Extras are expensive. You can walk to the edge of the canal.
We were at Playa Blanca for a week, our first all inclusive. We liked it, good food, lovely pools, nice grounds but beach is not so great. Lots of deals out of Canada....lots of package groups there. Evening entertainment mostly in Spanish. Hour and a half from PC.
Not only can you drink the water but the US Dollar is the currency (though they have Balboas which look the same). Don't expect a lot of English off the tourist path.
We enjoyed it very much but wouldn't call a visit to only Playa Blanca a visit to Panama. Judy
