That's where I went to uni!! Which one are you going to, what are you studying?! It's a fab place to be as a student!! And don't worry it's only about 2.5 hours on the train to Glasgow or Edinburgh, so handy enough smile.gif

Hey Charlotte, yes I should be in Stirling in a few weeks time - google maps is telling me thats not too far from Perth actually! I'm up for going anywhere to honest, I've been to Aviemore before, that was awesome but I was only young so don't remember much of it.

Anyway, we could convene a little Scottish meeting to help discuss your trip... I will bring a world map biggrin.gif

Hi Charlotte,

That's cool that you might meet up with us smile.gif I've no idea on anyones ages - what you'll find when you start travelling is that age doesn't matter, common interests do, in my opinion.
When I did my big trip, I made friends of all ages - it just became something I never really thought about...and that extends to this site. When you hang around the forums, you can form assumptions about peoples ages as well based on what they're talking about. (But you don't have to do that about me, I am 31, no secrets wink.gif )

I do understand you may have concerns though, as you've told us you're 17, only looking into travel opportunities now etc, and you are probably thinking you "shouldn't really be meeting up with 'strangers' you meet on websites"! (As I myself would be thinking if I hadn't been on here for quite a while and got used to the "familiar names" I see around.)

Anyway, I started that new thread in the Scotland area about the meet-up, so save this one now for your travel tips, as I'm sure more people can also give you help on that too, and I don't want to distract people from that for you - maybe have a read of the other thread and feel free to chip in when you like to. You totally don't have to meet up with us if you don't want to, but we'd love to meet you if you do, and like Sian said, we can give you advice etc on your trip if you want us to.

I love Perth, it's so pretty! And if you start chipping in on the other thread, I'm now thinking of suggestions of what we can do / where we can go for the meet up, so as a fellow local, it'd be extra cool to hear from you flowers.png

PS. Sian - Stirling is v. v. close to Perth!

Don't worry Charlotte, I'm only a year older than you! tongue.gif Nothing wrong with us youngin's smile.gif And even better for you to be thinking of planning this so early instead of looking back when you're 50 and going "I should've..". We're all young, let's enjoy it biggrin.gif And hey - if you're working with a uni schedule and want some company, give me a shout. I'm going to be at uni too and am ALWAYS up for random travels tongue.gif

Asia is a very easy area to travel around, as I said in my post there's a few well-established backpacker routes which may be best to stick to at first if you're not quite sure what you want to do. These standardly cover Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam [Laos and Cambodia too depending on how you route it], China and Japan, and whatever else you want to do! smile.gif You can throw in Indonesia or South Korea or even Myanmar [maaaybe when the conflict settles down a bit though], the choices are yours biggrin.gif

Brilliant, definitely in need of some that advice!

I'm 22 and just finished uni so I know what its like to think I'm still 18... tongue.gif But as has been said, embrace the youth... so much to see, so much to learn, its exciting to be 17 and think of all the neat stuff out there in front of you!

Asia sounds like an awesome idea - don't worry about being naive over it, I certainly was when I went there but got on just fine. The only way you learn is from experience and just throwing yourself into things and not being afraid to have a go... I reckon you'd get on just fine too smile.gif

As long as you think I am younger, then that's OK with me laugh.gif tongue.gif
I thought you were older but looked young!! (i.e. your age matches your photo, but your comments seem more mature than a 22 year old - I mean that as a compliment - hope it's coming across that way wink.gif )

Ha, yeah thats what I meant! You can still confess to being 25 and I will still think you're wise you know tongue.gif

I think I'm 19 in this photo actually so thats my fault for misleading you and clinging on to my long lost youth lol...
