I noticed the trains for Machu Picchu have ceased for the moment out of Cusco to Aguas Calientes, and there is only one train in and out of Poroy per day.

For better choices of times, I would like to use the Ollantaytambo station but need advice regarding the best form of transportation between Ollantaytambo and Cusco. How long is the travel time between the cities?

On the day I travel to Aguas Calientes I plan to rent a taxi from Cusco to take me to Pisac market and the ruins before going on to the Ollante station. But am concerned about the return transportation the following day from Ollantaytambo Station to Cusco. Any advice?

Okay! Sorry for the short reply but...

Check out the information on Wiki

and this travel information from Tripadvisor

From everything I've read so far, it seems the bus is a good option.....

Hope that's somewhat helpful! smile.gif

I would suggest to purchase a Cusco/Machu Picchu/Cusco ticket with seat assignment, and board the train at Ollantaytambo. The cost will not be that much more, and you will be assured of a seat. Obviously PeruRail is not too keen on selling intermediate segments.

We boarded the train at Ollanta a couple of years ago and were pleasantly surprised to find our seats unoccupied when the train arrived at Ollantaytambo from Cusco.

I tried the PeruRail site for pre-purchase, but found that although the Ollanta/MP sector worked, the Cusco/MP was not working. Perhaps this is a temporary glitch. If the site does work later, you might attempt to purchase a one way Ollanta/MP and than a one way MP/Cusco for the return.

One train a day to MP? I don't think so. See the PeruRail website for all schedules.
