Hello Everyone

I am Charlotte from Guildford in England and on 7th September i am leaving London to go to Singapore where i am staying for a few days before hopefully travelling around Malaysia. Then on 8th October i am heading to Perth Australia and will be travelling around Oz for a few months. I have absolutely nothing planned with the exception of the first 3 nights in Singapore. Any tips or hints on these 3 countries or indeed if you are planning something similar date wise please just contact me. I am travelling alone and would love a 'buddy' for my month in Malaysia

Hi Charlotte and welcome to the Travelpod Forums smile.gif

Your trip sounds great! you'll find many helpful people on the forums to help you out with hints etc so there shouldnt be any problems. I myself reside in Sydney, Australia so if you plan to visit Sydney and have any questions don't hesitate - also check out the "Australia" sub forum. it might help you out with any questions you may have and same goes for Malaysia and its corresponding forum.

Welcome aboard. Now I have a place I will have to google later this evening, for I have never heard of Oz, other then in the Wizard of Oz. This is the main reason I love this site so much, I get to learn about places all around the world, it will be fun doing the research.

Oz is Australia as far as I know.
Welcome to the forums Charlotte.
I was in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia & Indonesia last winter for 6 months and I have to say I will never return to any of them except Thailand.
I loved Thailand's everything.
Singapore was too expensive and not a lot to do. I had highlighted most of my travel book for singapore, got really excited & then when I got there everything was a let down.
Malaysia was a little better then Indonesia because lots of people spoke english but compared to Thailand another let down.
Bali. Indonesia was good but Derawan island was magical. We got a hut at the end of a peer or jetty and there were turtles swimming all around us almost all day and night. We even saw a Manta ray one night while we were walking down the jetty to our hut.
The SCUBA diving there is great too.
Sorry to get off subject. I'm just recommending Thailand instead of Malaysia.

So Oz is not an actual town or city? I tried to google it, but was unable to find much.

laugh.gif No, Oz is definitely just Australia...

QUOTE
The word Australia when referred to informally with its first three letters becomes Aus. When Aus or Aussie, the short form for an Australian, is pronounced for fun with a hissing sound at the end, it sounds as though the word being pronounced has the spelling Oz.

Hence Australia in informal language is referred to as Oz. The noun Oz is also used to refer to an unreal, magical place, and this usage had its origins in the fantasy novel The wonderful world of Oz written in 1900 by L Frank Baum.
