Definitely not Costa Rica. It's the most expensive country in Central America with Belize in a close 2nd. I found CR to be just as expensive as USA in a lot of situations.
This information is not right. Did you check it anywhere?

For some reason I always seem to hear people say Mexico is a cheap place to visit or live. May be cheap, but I would question how safe it would be,.

What I'm used to hearing about Mexico being cheap to live in, is from Americans, because Americans are not travelers, and it a close country that is cheap for them to live in.
I think that if we (Americans) traveled as much as other countries did we would have other choices.
This is the only reason I can think of, of why you might be hearing this.

cheapest in which sense? It depends on what quality of life you expect to have, for a basic living with no flashy tvs and lots of electronic equipment I would say brasil must be up there. You can have a meal in a restaurant for 2 for 3 or 4$ and a single meal to go for ~1$. Also Austria has the "social supermarket" which sells products for people earning less than a certain ammount at simbolic prices (roughly 80-90% cheaper than a standard market). African countries and southern asian countries must be on a list too.

Now if you want the cheapest place to live with loads of money you should probably check the new "developed" countries where most consumer products are produced and where all those things tend to cost much less than anywhere else!

well for starters brazil is not in central america smile.gif I have never been to any central american country but given that most of them are using the american dollar as currency they probably are more expensive to live in.

Also I don't know accomodation prices in central america but I know that housing in brazil is incredibly cheap for anyone coming from the western world. I can't give exact figures thou..

I stand corrected. I'm always getting Belize & Brazil mixed up.
What about:
Indonesia
Malaysia
El Salvador
Guatemala
Honduras
Nicaragua
Panama
And I've never even checked out South American countries prices. There has to be tons more then are listed here.
