We are interested in signing up for a golden flight package with air bagan to travel in October. We have been told the air fares may change for high season but have no idea by how much. We have been asked to pay 50% deposit now to guarantee the package but are leery about committing to an unknown price increase. This is the first time we've been unable to confirm an airfare when booking.
Does anyone have an input on this - is this standard practice for airline companies in Myanmar?

That sounds like strange behaviour...

Who is asking you to do that, Air Bagan, or a travel agent?

Thanks for your interest.
It's the Bagan Air GSA in Thailand who apparently represent Bagan Air.

What's a GSA?

I'd say, do the deposit like they want, but keep your receipts and if they try and steal money from you, show the people who work at Air Bagan.

I have heard Bagan has a questionable safety record although this is not confirmed. However, you may want to try and check that out.
I would also look into alternate flight options with the other Myranmar airlines and another travel agent.

GSA = General Sales Agent.
I've looked at Air Mandalay and they have the same package run by the same General Sales Agent in Thailand.
As for air safety I've read concerns about all the domestic carriers but also heard OK reports as well - hard to know what to make of it all, but have to put it down to appreciating that Myanmar is outside the norms of life on many levels.

Wow... I really don't understand this...

You have to have a "sales agent" buy you a ticket? You can't do it on their website or book it by phone directly yourself?

The reason for choosing the sales agent is to have a 'one stop shop' - they offer a good deal on flights, hotels and transfers and avoid the need to contact each place individually.
I've checked the other domestic airlines and they also have not yet announced their high season pricing, so I'm wondering if this is a government control thing.

I'd just wait and book directly.
