Hello All,
We are going to Croatia ( 2 people) in the end of september and will arrive in Zagreb by plane.
After Zagreb we intend to go to Plitvice Park and at the same day to Split. Is there an organized tour for this trip or we can go by bus? where we can book it?
After Split we would like to go to Brac, Hvar, Korcula and Dubrovnik and spend one day in Mljet.
We are not sure how is the best way to do this trip, spend one day in Split and go by ferry from island to island or go the island for one day and come back to Split and then go to dubrovnik.
If someone has some tip about the best way to organize it or even give other suggestions of places to visit! or hotels to stay!! all the tips will be very welcome.
We will have 8 days and a 1/2 in Croatia.
It seems a wonderful country.
Thanks a lot!!!
First, I'm not sure about connections from Plitvice to Split. There is a possibility u'll be forced to go back to Zagreb (or Rijeka or something else) to procede to Split. Check that out.
Obviously, to see the islands, u need to use boats :-)
this is official site of croatias ferry boats
there are some other lines, but very few, all u need is on this page
http://www.jadrolinija.hr/Split is mayor harbor (cca 300 000 people or more), and all the island are connected by ferries (cars) or catamarans (passengers only) from there.
Dubrovnik is very beautiful, but rather comercialized and expencive, i dont know much about it only been there for a day, but from there is a boat for Mljet (people say most beautiful island in Croatia) and there is a natural park on west part of the Island. To see Mljet u could also go from Dominče (part of town Korčula but not the same pear where u arrive from Split) to Orebić (peninsula Pelješac) and than from
Prapratno (peninsula Pelješac) - Sobra (Mljet)
http://tz-orebic.com/hrv/index.php?k=infoBrač is the biggest island on that part of the cost (south Croatia is called Dalmatia)
there are many places that are worth visiting, some little known even for the locals, like desert (pustinja) Blaca (google it), Škrip (oldest place inhabitated on Brač), Vidova gora,
http://www.otok-brac.info/otkrijte_brac.htmbut they are not on the sea, and u will need a car to go there. Most known place is Bol, with Golden Cape beach (Zlatni rat) cape is moving left and right through the year. There is also a very nice beach called Lovrećina. U will probably go to one of many tourist cost towns like Supetar (where u arrive by ferry from Split)
http://www.bracinfo.com/hr/Hvar is fantastic, but i've only been in town Hvar, and thats very popular, and can be expencive depending of your choice of restaurant or bar. There is a bar called Carpe Diem which is one of most expencive in Croatia...
It's a good idea to check for catamarans that interconnect islands, like u can go from Split - Milna (island Brač) - Hvar (town on island Hvar), and then try to catch Split - Hvar - Vela Luka (island Korcula) that goes to Ubli (island Lastovo) and things like that (they dont travel every day so plan carefully, also accaunt for possibility that it could be booked).
Be aware distances like Supetar (Brač) to Milna (Brač) arent that small and u will need taxi, or a bus (if ther is) for island hopping :-)
Othervise u need to go back to Split to go to another island, and as i recall ferry from Split to Brac travels 2 hours...
Hope you'd have a great time in Croatia, and good luck with island hopping, they are all worth visiting, and which ever u manage to see will be a beautiful memory :-)
Hrvoje
