Anyone been to the Okavango? We are four and will be there in Sept.'09 It's a very large area and it seems that the sights and prices vary significantly depending on where you're going to. Any suggestions on places to avoid? The 'fly in' style tour is way out of my league but I don't want to get stuck at some backwater pit and have the guide say 'here's the Okavango you paid for'. Perhaps I'm just being paranoid?

In the amazon forests while entering in to that one should be very careful and alert with the animals in the forests.we can see variety of birds in the amazon forest.

I spent 3 days and 2 nights in the Okavango Delta.

It was stunning though not quite what I expected. I think it was a mistake seeing the episode of Planet Earth that features it first.

We stayed at Sedia Hotel (its a bit posh-we camped) which has a little tours desk ina hut outside. Banished from the clean halls of the hotel! Anyway I can't remember the cost. I know it was 100 and something dollars. And you had to bring your own camping gear and food and cookin stuff. Perhaps that was just cause we had all that on our truck, Im not sure.

The mokoros are very relaxing and we got to have a play about on them whcibh was fun. Went for a walking safari and te polers entertained us on the last night and we played games which was fun.

Inbetween however wasa little boring. Id just go for one night.
The polers also didnt know we were coming! They were obviously told at last minute by someone then had to all gather together to get us in the mokoros then stopped off at their village to grab all their stuff that they needed. These people literally just go la la la oh tourists are here. drop everything were going!
So tip them reasonably! Im a terrible tipper myself, I always do it like Im bribing them for something. All discreet and james bond. well i like to think so.

To be quite honest. Take a day trip just to experience floating around on the mokoros. Its not as abundant in wildlife as you think and frankly i got bored after a little while.

I've just come back from an Overland Trip which included the Okanvango Delta. I can recommend anything with mokoros as they can take you to uninhabited islands which are amazing to camp in. We also had a night in Omvuvu Camp which I can highly recommend (bedded tents, bar, showers, etc).
