Here is my situation, and I am just trying to figure out what to do in regards to my upcoming trip to Egypt. I will be arriving really early in the morning [1am] and am not sure if I want to spend the money to get a hostel for a few hours or just wait in the airport. I figured someone here might have some insight for me.

Here is how my schedule is going to be for the few days prior:

First day: Flying out at about 1pm, layover, red eye over night.
Second day: Arriving in Athens at 10:30am, 12 1/2 hour layover while going site seeing, leave at 11pm
Third day: Arrive in Cairo at 1am [3 hour flight], in the morning hire a taxi and go to Saqqara, Memphis, and Dahshur.

My options are the following for what to do after I get to the airport:

Taxi into Cairo and get a cheap hostel with a private room [booked beforehand], hopefully for 4 hours of sleep [3am-7am] then go to my hotel that is booked for the first night of my tour to drop my bags off. [Probably $25 total]

Wait in the airport til 6am and take the cheap bus into the city and either walk to the hotel or get a cheap taxi and arrive by 7am. [couple dollars]

Wait in the airport til 6am and take a taxi into the city and get dropped off at the hotel, drop my bags off, and go site seeing [$10]

I am leaning towards the first option, but I am not sure. I mean it would only be $20, which isn't much. I am just not sure what would be the best idea. Any thoughts?

I dunno, seems like a reasonable time. Saqqara opens the complex at 8am and I would like to get there shortly after it opens to avoid a crowd, I suppose. Its 30km from the city so the drive would take a while in a taxi.

Well, I agree with the hostel, but I'd sleep in too! If you're only getting 4 hours sleep, you might as well stay in the airport.

I would also tend to go with the first option given that you will probably be pretty tired anyway after the travelling during the first two days. If I wanted to really not be a complete zombie at Saqqara, I would want to get the best possible sleep during those 4 hours.

I am leaning towards option 1 I think. Even if it is only 4 hours, it is worth $20. My friend made a good point too by saying "you had me at clean toilet" So I think I will do that most likely
