My wife and I have been working on a Canada trip for a while, and really want to go to the area nearest to the magnetic North Pole. Apparently that is Alert on Ellesmere Island, but I heard that Resolute is one of- if not the- northernmost "town" to the North Pole. True yes/no? Where in Nunavut should we visit, and what are our options for places to stay? Time of year/weather are not a concern- we are big cold weather travelers.

Wow, so great to hear you seriously want to visit the North!
Yes, I am pretty sure Res is the nearest community to the magnetic North
Pole although Grise Fiord is the most northerly community.
As for places to stay, all communities have hotels and a place like Res also has other lodges mostly for hunters and fishers. You should be able to find some info online or thru www.nunavuttourism.com. Just be prepared for expensive flight and accommodation costs.

It's easiest to get to Iqaluit in Nunavut. This is the community where most of the flights go to.

Yes, Iqaluit probably has the highest frequency of flights because it is the biggest community. However, if you wanted to hit Res, you would go through Edmonton using Canadian North or First Air which used to have combined almost daily flights from Edmonton to Yellowknife, to Cam Bay and Res.(among other smaller places).
