In Greece is legal if you go to a remote beach, but you are not coming here anyway! Not many Greeks prefer it these days. You might see some cars parked but they are going to move on the next morning.

However people usually go to campsites where they pay, because there you have all amenities and good service. Even a mini market, children's playground, swimmingpool, hot water, a bar, disco, a restaurant with cheap homemade food. A good campsite includes all the above in Greece and they are not expensive at all.

Theres nothing like camping in an empty field though (for me anyway, I prefer it to the purpose built 'resorts') - I suspect that if you are out in the countryside far enough noone would notice you anyway.

Yes, Paula I agree that you won't be noticed by anybody probably, but the fact is how would you feel. Who cares of others noticing you?
I mean if there is no fresh water, electricity and it is summer!!?
Can you imagine?

Good that you stated that you prefer it to the purpose built "resorts" Me as well.

(Probably as I grow older I prefer better places to stay)!! We used to go camping for years and I still love it. But ALWAYS the kind of campsites I stated in my previous relply.

Once, we spent 4 months on a campsite while my husband was working in a place in North Greece. The company was covering the expenses of a 4 start hotel, but since it was summer I asked that the company covers the expenses of the campsite instead.
And while staying there with our two young children, we bought another smaller tent for short weekend trips while already staying in a bigger tent!
It was unforgettable ! What an experience! We were up to Chalkidiki.
Have you ever been up there? Incredible beaches!
