I visited Syria for 9 days in December/January and it was amazing. I didn't know what to really expect and was very surprised. The people are very friendly and welcoming and the food fantastic (I only ate local foods).

Syria has a wonderfully long history and very interesting. Aleppo is a more conservative town and I highly recommend visiting to get a feel of what Syria used to be like.

We also stayed in Hama and Palmyra (we were there NYE and it was snowing!). Damascus is a wonderful old city mixed with both muslim and christian quarters.

We were in Syria when the Gaza seige was occuring and, although we found security a little tighter, in no way did we feel threatened or in danger...

I would definitely recommend this trip.
