I was returning from Sophia with the choir. The others were coming by coach, but I had to fly back to Athens and get the plane for Bali. The coach left me at 8am and drove away, while my flight was at 4.30pm. Nobody had got any sleep the previous night, as the hotel was awful. We had been invited by another choir there, and I was all by myself at the airport, not knowing the language, and not many people could understand English. It was terrible! An awful experience. I remember putting round my legs the straps of my handbags, and I was Sooo sleepy, I could not have my eyes open. I was afraid to sleep in case somebody stole my belongings. I never felt so sleppy in an airport before! Not even when returning from really long trips in Asia or China. No, I did not sleep that time. But on the trip to Beijin, and Bali, I caught my self having a light nap. http://www.travelpod.com/members/greekcypriot

i slept (if you can call it that) in London Gatwick for 3 days, and Denver for 1 night, and I think that is it, I tried Atlanta once but it was boring and didn't actually feel safe and around 4am I got a hotel. I would do it again, I mean if you are stuck, it really is better than spending all that money on a hotel room. I will tell I was stuck in Gatwick for 4 days total, the first day i did get a hotel because the idea of staying at the airport sucked, but you do get used to it, the best thing to do is just accept it and keep yourself entertained, you can always meet new people too.

QUOTE(starlagurl @ Jul 7 2009, 03:48 PM) So what airport were you at? The Sophia airport?
Yes Louise I was at Sophia airport. However I cannot imagine myself sleeping in airports! Yiafnaf.."I would do it again, I mean if you are stuck, it really is better than spending all that money on a hotel room" Raniroo "Come to think of it it was a great sleep" Some people are so lucky to just close their eyes and sleep! And to be honest, I would have preferred to stay at home and not travel, if I had to sleep in airports to save money. Of course it is another thing if you are stuck in one either because of a strike or something else! But still I would go to an airport hotel to get some sleep, relax and take a bath. http://www.travelpod.com/members/greekcypriot

QUOTE Some people are so lucky to just close their eyes and sleep! Well I did not sleep for 3 days, I took little naps maybe an hour at the most, but mostly just ate sandwiches, drank a coke, and sat and smoked with people, stuck up conversation where and when I could, there was a few people stuck at the airport so I was not alone. In all it was not the worst thing that could have happened it was quite an experience.

I'm going to camp out in Cairo next month. My flight lands at 1am, and I don't want to get a hotel for the night and pay for an expensive taxi, so I am just going to stay in the airport until 6, take a bus to my hotel, drop my bags off, then go site see for the day.
Hopefully i'll get some sleep in the plane from Athens to Cairo, even though it is only like 3 hours... that should be plenty to stay awake until 10pm though. Last three hour flight I had I was asleep before the plane even took off, so I think i'll deal.
