I just returned from Cancun, with my husband and 3 teenage boys, this was their graduation present....we own property in Galveston Texas, so we decided to trade a week and come to Cancun, we stayed at the Royal Carribean, very nice elegant place. The rooms were awesome, the facilities were clean and the staff was very helpful. Prior to making the choice on where to go, I looked on the internet and found several places but narrowed it down to Royal Carribean. Well the pictures of the ocean are from BEFORE the hurricane hit, you can't get in the water there at the resort for all the LARGE BOULDER's that the pics dont show you. This was much of a let down to all of us, for we had to travel to find a place to get in the water. The food prices were over the top, one night we had dinner at the resort, it was Taco night, for the five of us to eat Taco's and drink tea was $100us dollars...........nuts. We were also told to take the tour buses there......wrong answer, they overcharge as well, then we decided to book our tours there in the lobby, as we decided on which tours to take and the price, the guy behind the desk prepared the paperwork, and then added another, $15 us dollars per person for a dock fee that no-one had heard of. We were already prepaired for the $700us dollars were we gonna give him and then he added this other fee after agreeing on the $700....so we cancelled and walked across the street and saved money by booking the tours elsewhere. The "island of the women" is the place to go, much to do, much to see, clean beaches, cheap shopping and not to mention, our full seafood dinner with adult beverages was only $40 bucks for all 5 of us, needless to say we spent a couple of days there. Now back to the Royal Carribean Hotel, we find out our flight was cancelled and moved to 7am the following morning, I let the front desk know this information , they gave me a number to call so we could get he room for one more night.......They were gonna try to charge me $550 us dollars for one night, I think not, after only paying less than that for 7 days, so we found another place closer to the airport (we had to leave by 4am to catch our 7am flight) This place was the pits.......on the phone they told us all inclusive for all 5 of us for 1 night $250us dollars. Well you get what you pay for, the beach was clean, the service at the bar was nice, the Food well lets just say there was no chef on duty, and the microwave must have got lots of use. The entertainment staff was awesome, the rooms......well that is another story, the shower head was broke and water running everywhere, the toilet would not flush everything down.....the what was left of the kitchen (missing refrig, missing stove, missing microwave, ants all over,) and hope you dont have back or neck problems with the lovely mattress and pillows provided, heaven help ya if you have 5 peps in the room , all you get is 3 towels...other than that....to save money take the city buses, or take a cap on the corner, much cheaper than the hotel getting one for you

Well...sorry to hear that. Have you written any reviews on other hotel review sites?

This trip sounds like a nightmare for you!
I wonder if you picked out the hotel yourselves after reading some reviews, somebody recommended, or was it a travel agency that sent you there.

You should also report about the hotel at Tripadvisor so that other people getting there should know.

I am really curious to see who recommended it to you.

Cancun is just a Myth. Unless you're a drunk spring breaker you shouldn't visit.

The Riviera Maya is the place to go. Others are Los Cabos or Isla Mujeres maybe Cozumel.

Oh! And avoid Acapulco at all costs.

Have to agree!

We fell in love with San Jose del Cabo...a smaller community north of Cabo San Lucas. Unlike the latter the folks in San Jose have successfully prevented the developers from spoiling there 1850's community with all inclusives and time-shares. It is a delightful community.

Likewise, Loreto....still further north of Cabo San Lucas on the Sea of Cortez side of the Baja...is a wonderful little community that we really enjoyed. The developers have started to nip around the edges, but it remains a pleasant place to visit.

El Fuerte....on the mainland about an hour and half inland from the Sea of Cortez is another 1850's town. It is the early childhood hometown of Zorro....yes the same Zorro of Walt Disney and TV fame. Docements prove that he leived in El Feurte until he was nine years old when his family moved to southern California where his legendary adventures as an adult are said to have taken place. El Fuerte is steeped in history....a photographers dream!

Chiapas is also interesting.

There are other places in Mexico we have been to but these are the ones we like most.

I think Acapulco is just as touristy as Cancun, isn't it?

But, I believe you can find nice places in every place, no matter how touristy, so don't worry.

I agree. And I'm looking forward to Acapulco. If I get my way, we're going snorkeling at Roqueta Island while we're there. It sounds like a lovely day. smile.gif

Cancun is Mexico's most visited tourist destination and boasts over twenty-five thousand hotel rooms. Cancun has lots of beach and the hotels are magnificent. Some people actually never even leave the hotel grounds their entire vacation. On the north and south side of the island is the Caribbean Sea while an enormous lagoon named Laguna Nichupte is formed by the inside of the "7" on the islands southwest side.
