I'm confused about how much I need to budget (i.e. save up) for my 5 week solo trip to Colombia in early 2013.
Lonely Planet website (not the book! the website) says: "If you want a more comfy trip, with midrange hotels, some better restaurants and a flight from time to time, you'll average somewhere between US$25 and US$45 daily." But I keep reading warnings that you need at least US$50 per day for hostels and self-catering??
I'll travel in Colombia for 5 weeks, about 2 or 3 long bus rides per week maximum (staying in the same place for about 2-3 nights each time), I prefer smaller towns to big cities, won't go out drinking or partying (or maybe just once), want to stay in simple private rooms (solo), preferably with private bathroom, will eat at cheap restaurants and markets and from street vendors, and will probably book some short local tours (hiking with a guide, canopying, snorkeling).
How much should I expect to spend on average per day?
¡Muchas gracias!
