Fosseheimen (Waterfall Country)
Fosseheimen is located in Sunnfjord, and can boast around 50 large and small waterfalls along its three watercourses. The protected Gaular watercourse is the most prominent feature of Fosseheimen. Over 20 kms of waterfall paths have been laid along this stretch of amazing scenery. In a few years' time this part will also be included in the new National Tourist Road Gaularfjellet, of which the theme will be: From Sognefjord to Fosseheimen.



National Tourist Road
District road Rv 13 from Balestrand over Gaularfjellet to Moskog in Førde will in the next few years be developed into the National Tourist Road Gaularfjellet. However, we would also like to draw your attention to another beautiful tourist road: the Fjord Road to Florø, which runs alongside one of Norway's most splendid fjords, Førdefjord.



The Fjords
In Sunnfjord you will find two breathtakingly beautiful Western Norwegian fjords . Dalsfjord with its idyllic bays and Kobbeskjær, the home hamlet of one of Norway's favourite poets and storyteller, Jakob Sande . The other is Førdefjord, which runs out to the sea at Florø. where you may care to visit the gem of Sunnfjord, the island of Svanøy.



Jostedal Glacier
There are 7 municipalities (county boroughs) in the County of Sogn &Fjordane, which borders on to the Jostedal Glacier National Park. 2 of these are located in Reisemål Sunnfjord 'territory': Førde and Jølster. Two companies in Jølster offer guided hiking trips on the Haugabre Glacier, daily in summertime.



Museums, the arts and Nikolai Astrup
Nikolai Astrup from Jølster is a national icon in the area of the fine arts, and is Sunnfjord's most famous artist. But mention should also be made of Oddvar Torsheim, Ludvig Eikaas and Kjartan Slettemark - all of whom are Sunnfjordings that have gained renown throughout Norway and abroad.



The Cultural Centre
Førdehuset is the region's cultural centre and a focal point for representing the essence of Sunnfjord in a national context. The first stage was completed in 1976. 17 000 sq.m of theatre, cinema, art gallery, sporting facilities, swimming pool, library, studio, work-out gym and much more.



Churches
The 200 year old Hestad Chapel is the oldest church in Sunnfjord. Idyllically sited on a point that separates Hestadfjord from Viksdalsvatn lake in Gaular county borough.
