I am curious about what things, in particular, foods, that you miss if you are either travelling for a while in China or living in China.

And can you find these easily? Or does it involve getting care packages from home or going without.

I have been living here for about 10 months now and haven't really missed any food bad enough to go seriously searching for it. However, I will be returning to the West this summer and will probably eat (at least once) ridiculous things such as KD (Kraft Dinner) and Peppermint Aero chocolate bars.

I think anything I have missed has been made up for (multiple times over in many cases) by the wonderful fruit and vegetables I have been eating, not to mention tonnes of seafood!

That's great biggrin.gif. Very interesting to me, I'm still going to China in November; at this rate everything is working out well.
I'm sure there will be many thing I'll miss once I return home, but I'll be heading back to china late next year to study.

I'd love to live in China, I envy you tongue.gif
The food seems great compared to here! (in my tastes any-way)

Peppermint Aero chocolate bars.

That made me smile. I'll send you one no problem! Just send me your address smile.gif Even though you don't miss them that badly, it might be nice to get one in the mail yes.gif

It's funny, SO many people love the mint/chocolate combo but I just can't get into it!

What I missed most was Danish rye bread, a very heavy and filling type of bread from northern Europe.

Deodorant at cheap prices and (sorry guys) a selection of tampon brands.

Happy travels,

Yes, a lot of people seem to miss things like:
hearty dark bread
cheese

[my Chinese friend maintains that foreigners smell like 'cheese', hence the need for deodorants, whereas Chinese, who seldom consume dairy products, don't smell when they sweat)

I've been in Shanghai almost a year. I find I can get any food items I want here, or at least all of the ingredients to make things myself.

I miss the things that nobody can import, like blue skies and fresh air. But other than that, it's great!

I've been here for over 5 years and have pretty much become a local, but the two things I miss are books and Hershey's with almonds. Anytime I order anything from the west, or receive a package from anyone, I always ask to have a Hershey's with Almonds stuck in the package. Yummy!

I miss good wine, cheeses and bread. They can be found in Shanghai, but I live on the other side of the country. When I do get to Shanghai I always pig out on cheese, wine and bread.

I know what you mean - I was the same way for my first couple of years in Guangdong, but now in Qingdao I can't move for new wine shops, and French, German or Italian bakeries. I know it's a big market, but they've exploded. Cheese is still an expensive luxury tho!

Personally, I know I'm home because I miss very little. The only thing I have yearnings for is the camaraderie of sports clubs with clubhouses. The whole team ethic for socialising doesn't seem to fly here...yet.

Youtube! Haha, I wander why they can't see it huh?
I was on Skype to my friend in China, and I started laughing at a video on youtube, she wanted to see what it was i was laughing at but couldn't show her.

I guess for security reasons?
I think I'll miss youtube also tongue.gif (joke, how can I in such a beautiful country! haha)

yes kinda I miss arabic food, I am from Dubai. Well, in genral when I went to China I seek for Islamic food, nevertheless I had many food non islamic but it is either vegatable or sea food. I miss barbequed food, espcially lamp for Islamic food. I like Turkish restuarnts at Shanghai coz they have barbequed food all time even in morning. Chinese rice also is so bulky, non salty. It's custom in china, but it's fine I get used to it.
