Cyprus is surrounded by 39 “Blue Flag” beaches providing you with many options as to the choice of location.

If there is one Cypriot beach you visit, then make sure it is Fig Tree Bay. The beach itself is beautiful and will simply take your breath away. Fig Tree Bay was instrumental in the development of PROTARAS.
This is the most popular beach on the island and is a firm favourite with the Cypriots. The beach is marked with a fig tree and according to local legend was brought to the island by invaders in the 17th Century and has been there ever since.
The golden soft sands are gently lapped by the beautiful crystal clear blue waters of the Mediterranean. This is perfect for all walks of life, from divers and water sport enthusiasts to children who can play in the clear shallow waters.
There is a small island a few hundred metres from the beach which many people love to explore. Those who are brave enough to venture there should take shoes due to the island being made up of some very sharp rocks. However, once you are there, the views are simply stunning and really have to be seen to be believed.
Fig Tree Bay also has numerous water sports facilities and cafes along its shoreline.

A cluster of bays form the Makronissos beach. In fact there are three bays that stretch out in different directions, one to the west, the second to the southwest and the third stretches in a south-easterly direction. All of these bays create wonderfully well sheltered beach areas.
This large beach is one of the most popular with the Cypriots, particularly at the weekends. The beach itself is approximately 6km out from the local town and is very suitable for families and the older generation of visitors.
This is a superb white sandy beach which lends itself to experience many water sports. The many sports available include snorkelling, diving, water skiing, para sending and paddle boating.
Makronissos beach is the perfect haven for relaxation and tranquillity.

Nissi beach is a very popular and lively beach. It is a particular favourite for relaxing after a long night out in Ayia Napa.
Nissi, which in Greek translates as "small island", gives a new dimension to the beauty of the landscape. It is well sheltered from the wind and facilitates all sea sports.
The wonderful long stretch of beach sheltered by Nissi Island can be seen for miles and with its shelving fine white sands and calm clear water makes this beach a must-see.
Nissi Bay is a few kilometres west of the harbour and offers a great variety of watersports, cafes, pubs and restaurants. The atmosphere to be found here is much more relaxed than the busy Ayia Napa found close by.
This bay is also ideally located for the exciting water park

Governor's beach is located in between Larnaca and Limassol. This beach has beautiful golden sands mixed with pebbles along with remarkable white rocks and shallow clear waters. This peaceful haven is ideal for families and romantic couples alike.
The beach took its name from a British governor who went bathing there many years ago; with the surrounding stunning scenery, it is easy to see why.
This spectacular beach is ideal for snorkelling, boating, fishing and windsurfing. Also on hand are many nature trails along the beach or hills that are found a few metres behind the coastline.
There is a great selection of restaurants to be found here, where you can enjoy your lunch or dinner sitting under the trees and admiring the crystal clear water or the beautiful sunset.

Legend has it that this is where the Goddess Aphrodite rose from a gentle foam wave resulting in many a poet and writer to visit this spot for inspiration.
There are two large rocks which can be viewed from the beach . The Greek name of the rock is "Petra tou Romiou" translated as "Rock of the Greek". This is associated with the legendary Byzantium frontier-guard, Digenis Akritas. It is said that here he kept the Arab pirates at bay by throwing two rocks at them from the hillside above.
A day spent here is like a day spent in paradise.

This beach is off the beaten track but it is without a doubt worth making the effort to see. Due to the treacherous unpaved roads surrounding the beach, you will need a four-wheel drive for access. However, it makes for an excellent hiking expedition.
If you are able to access this beach, you will realise its wonderful location. You will experience miles of untouched scenic sand surrounding you providing an excellent alternative to the more crowded beaches to be found on the island.
Lara Bay is famous for its conservation society in the area. Here you will see many beautiful variants of fauna and flora. However, the most famous residents are the Green Turtle and Loggerhead Turtle. Part of the beach is protected just for this very reason and you can volunteer to help with the Lara Beach Turtle Station whilst you are visiting and see these protected specimens for yourselves.
