I was going to post this in the Republic of Ireland forum, but, not to be biased about the nomination of the Cliffs of Moher, as one of the new 7 Natural Wonders of the World, I've put it here. Vote for your faves now!

Wow, there are so many to choose from...

Didn't they have a vote on this a few months back? Or was that slightly different? I'm a bit confused.

Yes, I agree with sianeth! There are way too many choices to really make an informed decision, as far as I am concerned. I looked at a few of them but within each category, it would take me too long to look at all the candidates (and further research the ones I have never heard of) to make my vote meaningful (at least to me). Therefore, I opted out of voting as this seems more like a popularity contest than anything else. So whichever "host" country is able to get the most citizens voting for its "Wonder" will be the winner. In that case, the meaningfulness of the process does make me wonder, especially when it does not appear there are really any voting criteria.

As for an earlier vote....I think that was just for the 7 New Wonders of the World which did not necessarily have that "Natural" condition.

I think this is the first stage - I've been hearing about the 'Cliffs of Moher' on the radio all the time, and I think they have this massive list at the moment, and there is a cut-off point for initial votes, when they'll then publish a narrowed down list for people to choose from

Ha, it's really hard to choose because I haven't been to many of them...

I noticed that the selections are very anti-US! There are a few Canadian ones, but definitely not enough American ones...

Anyway, I voted for these ones:
1
Mount Scenery (NETHERLANDS ANTILLES)

2
Grand Canyon (UNITED STATES)

3
Niagara Falls (CANADA/ UNITED STATES)

4
Lake Superior (CANADA/ UNITED STATES)

5
Bay of Fundy (CANADA)

6
Shoal Bay-Island Harbour Marine Area (ANGUILLA)

It was hard to pick just seven, but here goes:

1. - Atacama Desert (Chile)
2. - Lake Atitlan (Guatemela)
3. - Perito Moren Glacier (Argentina)
4. - Niagara Falls (Canada)
5. - Grand Canyon (USA)
6. - Iguazu Falls (Brazil)
7. - Lake Enriquillo (Dominican Republic)

Most, but not all. I've never been to Iguazu Falls or Lake Enriquillo, but in pics they look beautiful :-)

Have you been to all the places on your list?

Yeah, I only voted for the ones I've been to, and that's 6...so I picked randomly for my 7th choice...

It's not really a fair voting system I don't think, and the list totally ignores the USA!

Yes, though my favorite US landmark was there (Grand Canyon), I was surprised there weren't many others!!

I did - I went around April last year. Had an amazing time and was in the water every opportunity I could get. I don't dive but to be able to snorkel with Reef Sharks, Marble Rays and baby sea lion pubs was fantastic.
