Next fall I am planning on studying abroad in the Netherlands. The program I am in gives us three day weekends every week so we can travel. Sweden is a country I might potentially visit; however, I know nothing about it besides the name of the capital!

I essentially would like to know what are the pros and cons of Stockholm, and what are some cheap/free attractions there since I will be on a VERY tight budget. Also, is Stockholm a city that can be well-appreciated in one weekend, more two days than three given travel time?

If anyone has any suggestions about Stockholm, or about another Swedish city I don't know of, I would love to hear them!

I would recomend a vissit to Stockholm. Try to go there as early as possible. Stockholm is it's absolute best in the summer. The later it gets into the fall the more everyting goes into hibernation.

Pros: beautiful city, lots of water and parks.
Con: expensive, the tax is 25% most of the time. Don't plan a shopping spree.

The best thing free thing you could do in Stockholm is to walk around in it.
The most popular places to walk around int is Gamla stan (the old city center), söder (the whole south island) and the many parks such as Kungsträdgården, vasaparken and Humlegården.
If you want to get a view of the city it's pretty cheap entrance to the old tv tower Kaknästornet and there's also nice views from Skinnarviksparken.

and also don't by the Stockholm card.

I wouldn't be able to go until end of summer/early fall so I'll keep that time frame in mind, thank you. I love water and parks and walking so all of that sounds great to me smile.gif

I assume the Stockholm card is something about public transport?
