What?!

Yeah, apparently they are closing down prisons because there aren't enough prisoners to keep them open.

Any thoughts? Theories?

Look no further...... in Ottawa we are having problems finding enough space in our jails..... to the point that criminals get their time waiting to go to trial counted as 2 for 1 because we have no more room to keep them!

Plus, they only really serve 1/3 of their sentences because we need the space......off to the netherlands!!!!!

Send them there.....Got to send this article to our city councillors!

WOW!!!!!

I have just written a new blog - from the Netherlands, as I'm here right now! Guess what it features? - Yup, crime! I hope you've not encouraged crime in this country by advertising that there's not enough! (Only joking!)

I am sure it's isolated, it is pretty crime-free here - I'm just laughing in irony that you posted this (and I'm now reading this after what I just wrote!)

Yeah, that was the one. I think I was just unlucky! The Netherlands is a very safe country in my experience, and from having seen this, I'd say the cops swoop so fast, that it's why the crime rate is perhaps so low. Good on them!

Nederlanders are wise enough to choose their battles. They take a long look at which laws will improve the country, not the ones that will simply get them re-elected.

The U.S. has decided to privatize the prison system so that it is now more than ever a money-making venture. It is not about punishment or improvements, it is about recidivism. Make the criminal come back and they keep making money. We have more criminals than anywhere on the planet, or close to. Did you know that when someone is paroled they MUST return to their own neighborhood but MUST NOT associate with any of their friends? A recipe for failure from the start.

We criminalize pot but allow alcohol. We criminalize prostitution when it should be absolutely none of the governments business what I do with my body, let them stick to taxing my income. Victimless crimes shouldn't be.

Well, since we just rented out a big prison to Belgium...something must be changing. I would guess it is partly more "community services" punishments.

And we have plenty of criminals...but they work for the bank and insurance companies it seems devil.png
