My wife, myself and our 2 kids (9&11) will be in LA for 4 nights (in December) on our way to Orlando and New York. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on the best area to stay, attractions to visit etc. We won't have a car so public transport will be the go. Cheers

I think this is a job for Super Kit (kitkatgo). She should be around anytime soon. She's the best person to ask about traveling anywhere with your family, ESPECIALLY California.

OH gosh, well, there are TONS of things to do and see. Can you give me an idea of what your interests are? Theme parks (Disneyland/Disney California, Knott's Berry Farm, Six Flags), LA Zoo, Hollywood, hiking, beach, La Brea Tar Pits, Museums, etc. ???

Also, um, public transport is not that great in LA. Are you perhaps from another country, like UK maybe where public transport is good?

Things are VERY spread out in LA, so depending on what you want to do will determine what area you want to stay in. And unless you are going to stay in a very small area, I highly suggest you rent a car. As it is, it's difficult to get anywhere by car with all the traffic, but if you rely on public transport, you'll never get anywhere in a reasonable amount of time.

So let me know what your interests are and we'll go from there. smile.gif

Well, I'm not sure about some of the other theme parks, but I've never heard of Disneyland shutting down, certainly not because of weather. Even in December, the weather is usually not that bad...maybe some rain. And that's a big maybe.

The 2 wks around Christmas when all the kids are out of school, the Dland parks are *extremely* crowded though, and they will let in a LOT of people before they close the entrance. I've gone there all my life, and I don't think I've ever actually seen Dland close for any reason, other than closing time, lol.

At Dland, blackout dates refer to days where someone with an annual pass cannot get in (there are different levels, each with varying amounts of blackout dates).

Sheri, can you give info on the other parks?
