Los Angeles was for me a scary place to walk ..... As soon as we reached the Holiday Inn, many people in the group were robbed. Later on we were told by our tour guide to avoid going out as individuals but walk in small groups. I remember we had dinner somewhere away from the hotel, but on our way back it was already midnight and we were walking with friends, we were really scared seeing 3 tough guys approaching us! Of course these things can happen to other places and I can't blame LA . It was to happen I think, but honestly speaking I don't care if I ever visit LA again or not. http://www.travelpod.com/members/greekcypriot5400 photos-videos, 30 countries

QUOTE(laorfamily @ Feb 23 2010, 03:50 PM) Of course, without bad there is no good.
I love movies and my wife asked me once how come, when I see a movie I don't care for, I still watch it? My answer was that if I don't watch bad movies once in a while, I'll never see good movies.
That's pretty much how I feel too but i think there are others who have much less tolerance for the "bad" BUT, just to play devil's advocate, since we can already distinguish good from bad, than would you knock out those 'bad' experiences and places and travel blissfully for the rest of your life?

QUOTE(kili-kelly @ Feb 24 2010, 02:18 AM) It depends on the investment. When I go on a trip, I have spent months anticipating, planning and saving. Getting time free to travel is not so easy, so when you are spending not only your money but your limited vacation time on a spot that is hell it is especially disappointing. I had that once at an awful resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica, but I bailed out after the first night and found a much better small remote place elsewhere on the island.
You're lucky you could find another place. Did you get any of your money back?? 99% of the time I plan everything really well ie paperwork up until departure and then generally leave it all up to chance from then on. I recently went on a last-minute vacation, and though the destination wasn't hell, there were tons of things about the experience that weren't especially desirable. In a way, I wish I could have bailed but our son loved it so that made me happy. That's too true, When time is limited, spending time in 'hell' is especially torturous. When you have a longer period, it's much easier to get over it and just move on.

Emma, I guess if you know how to travel cleverly some of these trips don't cost much. I know many who are on a low budget and yet they are out travelling using buses, trains, stay in hostels or houses. It depends on your work as well and what you leave behind. But between us, short trips are also fun, and there are times that we dream of distant destinations and yet the beauty is out there where we are and we just cannot appreciate it because we live there and we got used to it. Am I wrong?
