Aright, what happens to unclaimed baggage? Where does it go? What do they do with it?

What Happens to Unclaimed Luggage

Well, in Canada every airlines takes responsibility for their own unclaimed bags.

Some of these lost bags sit at airports for months waiting to be claimed, before their contents are finally sold, donated or dumped. What happens to travellers' new cameras and dirty underwear depends on which airline carried the suitcase, and where in the world the plane landed.

Bags abandoned at Heathrow Airport are auctioned off at Greasby's in southern London. In the United States, thousands of unclaimed suitcases are unpacked each year and their contents sold at the 40,000-square-foot Unclaimed Baggage Centre in Scottsboro, Ala.

Unclaimed Baggage Centerin Scottsboro Alabama (apparently) has long term contracts with the airlines and getss dibs on all the best stuff.

Has anyone ever bought anything from unclaimed baggage from Greasby's in London? Or from anywhere?

I've never been to the Unclaimed Baggage Center in Alabama, but I'm going back to Alabama on the 20th...I'll check it out and let you know what it's like.

Currently traveling the world on the company's dime...it's the cheapest way to go!!!

Quote from my friend Chuck, who spent 5 months riding his bicycle all the way around the USA - "Nobody says you have to order an entree in the restaurant of life, you'll only be here once! Order the sampler, try as many as you can before you're full; odds are one (of) the items on this menu does more for you than you ever thought. And if I'm wrong, tell the waiter that his menu sucks, throw the cook aside and invent your own masterpiece. Just pour 'em all in, all your favorite ingredients. With enough imagination, any combination will work -- there are no recipes for the paths still awaiting discovery."

Hi,

Airlines usually keep unclaimed luggage around the terminal where it was found for about five days before shipping it to a central warehouse. After about 60 days in storage, carriers donate the bags to charity or sell them to salvage.
The Unclaimed Baggage Center buys luggage from airlines with the contents site unseen. Clothing makes up about 60 percent of the millions of items that pass through the store annually.

Keep Sharing........
