The tsunami is expected to be generated when a major landslide, on the island of Dominica—about 30 miles (50 kilometers away)—plunges up to a million tons of rock into the sea (Dominica and Guadeloupe map). "It is not a case of if the landslide and tsunami will happen, but when," said Richard Teeuw, from the University of Portsmouth, U.K., who led the team of geologists that made the discovery. "Most likely it will be triggered by a major earthquake," Teeuw added. "It could happen in a hundred years, or it could happen next week." But that doesn't keep me hiding in a fallout shelter.
