Navigator Group: Local Expert Posts: 1367 Joined: 21-August 06 From: Southern California Member No.: 13816	Last night DH and I watched International Househunters in Budapest. DH's eyes got wide when the show was over, and he said, "Hey, let's go to Budapest for Christmas!" My eyes got big and I replied, "YEAH, let's go!" So we stayed up 'til midnight making the American Airlines reservations using award miles. ...Now admittedly, we had talked before about going somewhere over Christmas break using our miles, but Budapest had not come to mind, lol. We will be flying into Frankfurt, Germany...going to Vienna, Austria...to Budapest, Hungary then back over 10 days or so. Whoever are they? Ae you going to buy a house there? Why we chose that area? Just because it´s on my bucket list. Next year it´s Turkey. -------------------- .

You should really make a stop in the House of Terror while there. A great museum showing you the horrible history Hungarians have had, first the Nazis then the Communists. Kinda somber really. I also suggest hiking up to the Citadel, rather than the usual tourist bus. It's a long and uphill walk, but through a great park with some spectacular views. But I see you're going during Christmas, might be a little chilly. Well, New Zealand has always been on my radar, but reading Woz's blog about it put it straight to the top of my list. Szentendre seems to be the easiest to get to, just a 40-minute train ride from Budapest, whereas Eger is at least two hours. Is either one of these in your programme? -------------------- .

Well, Martin, I haven't even started looking at any of the cities yet! So there is nothing on the itinerary so far. Like Polydemic...I will be very thorough, just haven't gotten started yet. We were watching that show "Cities of the Underworld" and saw a special on Budapest. Now my wife spent the first part of her life in Germany as an Army brat, and has been dying to go back to Europe. My mother and her partner pretty much told us to pick a place, so we were thinking about Thailand, Mexico, Italy, Banff Canada and Switzerland. Then we watched this special and were hooked. We got the trip booked, bought ourselves the Eastern Europe Railpasses, and took two trips while staying in Budapest- one to Vienna and another to Prague! -------------------- My homepage-a mental donut shop for well-traveled psychopaths....don't ask

Off topic but; Eger is awesome but I think one gets more out of the Danube Bend. Esztergom is really nice and so are Visegrad and Szentendre.
