In the case of Peru, I'm afraid so.

If you access LAN though any overseas window, such as USA or any other country, the fares are higher than if you access LAN through the local wondow. I searched for fare Lima to Trujillo through the USA window and found them to be around US$ 200.00. In the Peruvian window there were less than US$ 50.00. You can only buy domestic tickets with a domestic credit card, so I contacted a Peruvian travel agent who purchased the ticket for me locally. Even with the travel agent fee it was still a substancial saving.

I would imagine that it is the same for Argentina, though fares in Argentina are much higher than Peru.

No way! I learn something new every day...

What if you are an Argentinian or Peruvian in the US? Too bad for you then?

You have to pay DOUBLE to fly inside the country if you`re not a citizen of Argentina....it`s absolutely certain with Aerolineas de Arg....I just don`t know yet if it`s that way with LAN Arg,which is also a local as well as intl carrier...thanks,Frank

But I mean...

What if you are an Argentinian citizen who happens to be booking his flight from the US? Does he get charged the same amount as Americans?

If you are an Argentine living overseas, you get your family at home to book the flight for you. Unless of course, you still carry a valid Argentine credit card.

A good example is to check the US and Argentine sites of "despegar.com".

Check the cost for a RT BUE/IGR/BUE on the 28th. May.

http://www.despegar.com.ar/homes/viajes.html

LAN is 640 pesos argentinos (or US$ 172.00)

http://www.us.despegar.com/ which is the US page.

LAN is US$ 244.00.
