I found this;

There is no ferry nor train between Ayvalık and İstanbul. However it is not that far from Istanbul takes about 6 hours by bus.There are many buses between the two cities.

There's a ferry that goes between Bandırma and İstanbul.Bandırma is close to Ayvalık they are both part of Balıkesir region.That ferry crosses Marmara Sea in 2 hours and extremely comfortable.You can take a bus from Ayvalık to Bandırma, should be taking about 2-3 hours and then take the ferry to Istanbul.The ferry goes directly somewhere near to Istanbul's historical center.

Hope it's helpful...... flowers.png

We have two days between Lesvos and Istanbul. I don't know if we should book Ayvalik hotel for 2 nights or use one night for traveling to Istanbul. Perhaps we could use those 2 nights for the ferry trip to Istanbul. Not sure what's possible.
