I'm planning a trip for myself and a couple of friends to the far north for a couple of weeks. We've got a car and will be camping/hostelling, so want to get off the beaten track, and avoid places like Fort William and Inverness (I've visited these areas many times, so want something new).

Any advice/recommendations for the following areas:

• Applecross
• Achiltibuie
• Lochinver
• Durness

We've got a week to spread over these destinations and then another week in Orkney. We'd like to go walking/climbing, kayaking, surfing etc and are also keen on wildlife. Any ideas?

Sorry no one got back to you - I've not been on here myself in a while. Have you headed off on your trip yet? I'm afraid I would be no use at helping with this one anyway, as I've never been to any of those places :-( Hope you have / had fun!
